Dear Brothers and Sisters,
May the God of wisdom, knowledge, and grace be with you always!
Our readings this week teach us about true Wisdom. Wisdom is not a matter of just knowing facts, but leads to an entire way of life, a life of discipleship (disciple means pupil or student), knowing one’s limitations, knowing one’s own idols that may keep them imprisoned and detained from following the Lord. Wisdom helps us to understand how to forgive those who have wronged us. Wisdom seeks to grow in holiness and in the ways of the Lord.
Labor Day marks the end of summer vacation and the beginning of many regular parish and school activities. As many of us return to school, as teachers or students, and our daily labor, I encourage you to pray for students, teachers, and all workers. (Adapted from the Book of Blessings) For students as they begin this new school year, that the Spirit of God may grant them the gifts of Wisdom and Understanding.
For Teachers, that they may share their knowledge with courage, gentleness, patience, and concern for their students.
For all who seek knowledge of the things of the world, that they may always pursue God’s wisdom.
For parents, the first teachers of their children, that their faith and love may set an example.
For all laborers and workers, that their work may bring progress to human life and advance the spread of the Kingdom of God.
For the unemployed, that they may find work that befits their dignity.
Prayer for Students: Lord God, your Spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us your ways. Look upon all students. Let them enjoy their learning and take delight in new discoveries. Help them to persevere in their studies and give them the desire to learn all things well.
Prayer for Teachers: Lord God, look upon all teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds. Grant that students and teachers alike may follow Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life, for ever and ever. Amen
Prayer for laborers on Labor Day: O God, Creator of all things, who have commanded the human race to bear the burden of labor, grant that the work we do may bring progress in this life and, by your favor, advance the spread of the Kingdom of Christ. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Thank you to all who assisted and helped during my installation on August 28, 2016. I appreciate all the support and generosity that was bestowed upon me on this very special occasion!
May God teach us his ways and lead us to the joys of his kingdom, now and forever.

A note for all Religious Education Families: We will begin Religious Ed this year on September 14, the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, with an opening Mass at 6:30 pm. Families are invited to this Mass, and students are expected to attend, this is the first day of CCD. Students who do not attend will be counted as absent. I encourage families to remind coaches and schools that Wednesdays are for religious education. I too will speak with the schools on this matter. It is my hope and prayer that this will be a year of great blessings and grace for our students and families as we seek to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ
